Herring Bone Scarf


I designed this Hat and scarf for my younger sister’s birthday. It has a fabulous texture, photos don’t quite do it justice.

Materials:
  • ·         less than 240 g aran or worsted weight yarn.
    (I used Redheart Yarn With Love in Pewter.
  • ·        
    Needle and scissors for finishing
  • ·        
    5.00 mm (H) hook

Gauge
test:
 
  • starting chain is approximately 7 inches
  • 4 rows of herring bone
    dc is approximately 1.5 inches

Stitches
and Abbreviations:
  • ·        
    Chain: ch
  • ·        
    Herring Bone Double Crochet (HB): yarn
    over and pull up a loop (3 on hook), pull first loop through second loop (2 on
    hook), yarn over and pull through first loop (2 on hook), yarn over and pull
    through both loops to finish (see Herring Bone Beanie for  stitch photos)

Notes:
This scarf won’t have straight
edges along the edges due to the nature of the stitch it will have a slight
ripple. Pictured below
SCARF
PATTERN
Start: Ch 27,
Row 1: starting in second chain from the
hook, HB in each remaining ch; (25 HB)
Row 2: Ch 2, turn, HB in each stitch
across (25 HB)
Row 3-145: Repeat row 2 until scarf
reaches desired length.
Finished Scarf is approximately 5 ft. in
length x 7 inches wide. Length can be adjusted 
as necessary by adding or removing rows
Optional: Finish off by adding fringe
across the width, or tassels, or pompoms on 
the corners.
